About BAN Optical and Robert F. Novak
Robert F. Novak is a seasoned instructor of optics with 37 years of experience in teaching optics. He is Professor Emeritus of Optics at Monroe Community College where he was responsible for Optical Fabrication, Advanced Optical Fabrication,Wave Optics, Advanced Optical Metrology and Laser Applications. In addition to his teaching, Bob was chairman and coordinator of the MCC Optics program for 30 years and for 5 years headed all Engineering Technology at the College. Today, over a dozen of his optics graduates own or manage optics companies.
While at MCC, Bob became involved in Optical Fabrication Seminars. He was a chair and speaker of the second OF&T (Optical Fabrication & Testing) seminar ever to run in America. He is a 20 year Board member of APOMA (American Precision Optics Manufacturers Association), which is responsible for industrial workshops and their Optifab convention and is a “Honorary Member of The Optical Society of America , Rochester Section.
He has authored and co-authored numerous publications about optical fabrication training and optical manufacturing.
BAN was Born
In the 1970’s Bob founded BAN Optical, a company that combined his industrial background (Bausch & Lomb, Wollensak Optical and Xerox Corporation) and educational experience to design and deliver industrial specific courses.
Corporate Experience
Bob helped with the design of an “Optical apprentice program for Eastman Kodak”, a successful partnership with MCC that lasted for over 25 years and turned out hundreds of graduates.
In 1997, Bob was asked by LLNL to develop an Optical Fabrication Certificate in order to help provide optical fabricators for the NIF initiative. The program was successful in filling the industries needs of the local NIF suppliers.
